Telecom & wireless device logistics

Sprint (now T-Mobile) was once among the top telecom companies in the US. They were owned by Japanese mega-corporation SoftBank. What most people don’t know is there was also a company called Brightstar quietly focused on logistics behind the scenes, managing the fast-paced supply chains for both. And I managed how these companies spoke about their synergies.

Brightstar Tap & Trade app

UX | Writing

Users could download this app directly into their phone, and from there, the app would direct them through simple tests to assess the quality and functionality of their device. Upon completion, the app provides a fair trade-in value for the device. Short copy and eye-popping icons helped make this a fun, intuitive process.

Sprint Trade-In site

UX | Content strategy

Powered by Brightstar's logistics experts, Sprint’s trade-in site allowed existing Sprint customers to discover the value of their old phone or tablet. By answering a few basic questions about the device, customers could quickly find out how much they could expect to receive upon trading in their used devices. This site helped Sprint's reverse logistics team save nearly $200K in operating costs per quarter.

In response to the potential health risks associated with excessive screen time, Sprint offered accessories to protect users from blue-light exposure.

NX Life “teaser” video

Writing | Concept direction

Because Apple and Samsung launch new devices regularly, consumers are quick to trade in their perfectly good phones, many of which are less than a year old. To tap into the global secondary market for used phones, Sprint and Brightatar launched NX Life, an affordable line of refurbished, like-new devices.

NX Life was also designed as a “white label” program that could be adopted by any wireless carrier. In short, Brightstar would manage the collection, refurbishing, and reselling of phones on behalf of a partner telecom brand.

Brightstar.com homepage

Because Brightstar manages logistics, distribution, and supply chains for wireless carriers, explaining all of these “behind-the-scenes” services has always been a challenge. However, I rewrote and restructured Brightstar’s homepage so as to put the spotlight on key services, providing short, clear, and concise explanations for them all.

M.E. ecommerce site

M.E. (Mobile Enhancements) affordably bundles must-have accessories with in-demand services for wireless devices. For instance, select “Protect M.E.” and you’ll find phone cases paired with virus security. Working alongside coders, supply chain teams, and partner brands, I helped wireframe and design the site (as well as write every single word).

She did an excellent job.

Retail sales tools

Writing | Concept direction

Most consumers who visit retailers like Best Buy, Apple, and Target are unaware of the radical improvements Sprint made around 2015. Most store associates were unaware as well. As a result, they were more likely to promote the carriers they use themselves, namely Verizon and AT&T. To curb this trend, I developed print and digital tools to help them understand the benefits of Sprint more easily.
